Open face racking systems have been specially developed for box pallets and containers, which are only supported in their four corners. With open face racking the containers or pallets are stored on depth supports, which are hooked into the side perforations of the frames. By eliminating the horizontal beams as in conventional racking, open face racking provides maximum height utilisation.
This type of racking can also be automated by equiping stacker cranes. They travel along the aisles of the warehouse, where they enter, position and extract materials.
