Maximize space utilisation and improve operating efficiency

Optimizing storage capacity can be achieved in two ways: narrowing the aisles; or increasing the pallet racking height. Narrow aisle and high bay racking combines both to achieve ultimate space-saving while still maintaining direct access to every pallet.

Narrow aisle and high bay racking combines most of the advantages of conventional pallet racking, but with better floor utilisation by reducing the aisle width or increasing the height.

The biggest advantage of these warehouses is their excellent use of space and direct access to any stored pallet.
Turret trucks or stacker cranes are used to handle the load units.

Racking for turret trucks

Turret trucks are heavy-duty vehicles designed for working in narrow aisles mainly in high-bay warehouses.
These machines need to be guided when operating inside load lanes. This can be achieved with guiding rails on both sides of the aisles, wire-guided, or laser-guided. Furthermore, they also require they a very even floor on which to move.

Turret trucks are designed for working within the loading aisles. They are often supported by more conventional handling devices which help by depositing and picking up pallets at the end of the racking aisles.

Very Narrow Aisle racking

High level order picking

The system can also be serviced by man-up-order-picking stackers. These are fork lifts with elevating cabins where the operator hand picks at heights. It is perfectly suited for convenient pallet storage and retrieval or for fast order-picking straight from the pallet.

Benefits of narrow aisle and high bay racking

  • Unrestricted access to every pallet
  • Optimum use of available floor space
  • Greater utilisation of warehouse height
  • Order picking even at high lift heights
  • Operated through semi-automated or fully automated narrow-aisle trucks
