stow’s mobile racking system

In September-November 2011, stow installed a mobile racking system for Maier Spedition, split over two units. This advanced system is made up of a series of pallet racks with automated mobile carriages, running on rails. The key dimensions of the system are 35 m by 85 m and the height is 7.5 m. As a result of this installation, the total capacity of the building was increased by 8,816 pallet spaces, which corresponds to an increased capacity of no less than 30%.

Armin Herlan, Technical Manager at Maier Spedition, explains the reasons for choosing this system: “In these units, it chiefly concerns the storage of, firstly, engines and motors for construction plant and equipment and, secondly, of organic wines. We opted for a mobile system because it allows all aisles to be opened and closed, as needed. The main consideration behind this choice was, of course, that we wanted to have as many pallet spaces as possible within the space available.”

Clearly, this mobile racking system saves a lot of redundant space and storage capacity is considerably up. Even so, some people perhaps still wonder whether such automated racking is totally safe. What if there’s a worker still active between the racks and the aisle suddenly closes, just like that? Herlan explains that everything is well thought-through and quite safe: “stow convinced us of the high product quality, also as regards safety.” The remote control and, in particular, the photo-electric beam system, stop a rack from moving if here are still people or objects in the aisle.

Why did Maier Spedition choose stow as its storage solution provider? Armin Herlan: “stow offered us the best value for money. The professional support at the planning stage was another deciding factor. So I have nothing but praise for the team responsible for this project. We’re also delighted with the speedy execution and the punctual, fully-compliant handover. Everything went according to schedule and everything functions trouble-free, day in, day out.”
