Eutraco’s fully automated logistics center
At the Krommebeekpark site in Roeselare, Belgium, Eutraco has developed a state-of-the-art logistics center that marks a significant milestone in the company’s evolution. Operational by 2025, this fully automated, carbon-neutral facility spans 8.6 acres and boasts a high-bay warehouse standing 25 meters tall. Bringing together industry leaders MG Real Estate, stow, and Körber Supply Chain, the project exemplifies innovation, sustainability, and efficiency.
Eutraco, founded in 1967 in Belgium, has grown from a family-run transport business into a leading logistics provider. Offering services like warehousing, transport, and customs, it operates 15 sites across Belgium with over 600 employees and a large fleet. Known for sustainability, Eutraco invests in CO2-neutral facilities and electric trucks, aiming to manage 685,000 m² of logistics operations by 2025.
The vision: a future-proof logistical gem
Serge Gregoir, CEO of Eutraco, describes the project as a ‘logistical gem’ and a critical step in the company’s transition from a transport business to a full-service logistics provider.
“In this space with limited square footage, we have achieved a high density of storage and full automation. This is a very future-proof solution for our customers in the area,” says Gregoir.
With this project, Eutraco aims to solidify its position as one of Belgium’s top three logistics providers. The center’s design prioritizes sustainability, embodying the company’s full-service approach to logistics while significantly reducing its carbon footprint. The facility’s advanced high-bay warehouse not only optimizes storage space but also integrates cutting-edge automation technologies to ensure seamless operations. Designed to handle varying pallet dimensions and maximize storage density, it is a model of efficiency and adaptability. Furthermore, the project underscores Eutraco’s commitment to sustainability, featuring carbon-neutral operations and energy-efficient construction methods.
A collaborative achievement in logistics innovation
This cutting-edge facility is the result of a collaborative effort between Eutraco and its trusted partners. Strategically located at the Krommebeek industrial site, the logistics center benefits from close proximity to the E403 highway, offering easy access and optimized transport routes. The site encompasses a 28-meter-high high-bay warehouse covering 17,000 square meters, complemented by a mezzanine installation spanning 4,000 square meters and an additional 8,000 square meters of general storage space. Sustainability was a key focus throughout the construction, targeting a BREEAM “Very Good” certification or higher.
The high-density stow racking systems were custom-engineered to accommodate up to 29,000 pallets, with a separate installation for 10,000 pallets on a mezzanine. These systems are designed to handle varying pallet dimensions and weights of up to 1,000 kilograms, ensuring versatility and compatibility with a wide range of goods. To further enhance efficiency, the warehouse integrates advanced automation solutions, including cranes, shuttles, and a warehouse management system (WMS). This allows for the seamless handling of up to 300 inbound pallets and 100 outbound pallets per hour, with loading times as short as 15 minutes per truck.
The entire concept is built for scalability, allowing it to be replicated in other environments with varying dimensions while maintaining its exceptional performance. A key contributor to this groundbreaking facility is stow, the leading racking supplier for High Performance Racking, ensuring optimal storage efficiency and reliability. By March 2025, the facility is expected to be fully operational, setting a new standard for logistics centers in Europe.
A model for sustainable logistics
This collaboration between Eutraco, MG Real Estate, stow, and Körber Supply Chain showcases what’s possible when industry leaders unite to achieve a common goal. The logistics center in Roeselare represents a leap forward in automation, sustainability, and supply chain optimization. For Eutraco, it’s not just a milestone but a testament to its ambition to lead the logistics industry in Belgium.
As Gregoir concludes; “This project is a clear step toward our goal of creating value for customers, employees, and all stakeholders involved. We will continue to strive toward this vision in the years to come.”
